~Date.Current~
Hi there ~Contact.FirstName~,
My older sister was diagnosed with breast cancer 9 years ago, my cousin was diagnosed several years ago, and another cousin was just diagnosed last week.*

I have 20 female cousins, and 3 sisters, so the odds of this happening are consistent with our national cancer average. Even so, it’s upsetting and pretty darn scary.
Ask any group of women in America today if a loved one has had Breast Cancer and the show of hands is overwhelming.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and pink ribbons are everywhere- candy bars made with processed sugar with pink wrappers are featured at the local Bank, Target has a tower of plastic pink items , most of which contain BPA. (Bisphenol-A , a known carcinogen) .
Fried Chicken buckets are pink, and the contents are prepared in trans-fats, with meat coming from hormone and antibiotic laced factory-farms.
Curing cancer is imperative; but I find the partnerships and promotions confusing and misleading. Where are the ethics in this fight against cancer? Is the money gained worthwhile, no matter the cost?
And how does that reflect on the idea of prevention?
Eating a diet free of known carcinogens/pesticides, reducing our inflammation and increasing our exercise, living a holistic lifestyle in as green an environment as possible, are significant steps we can take in reducing the risk of cancer.
One step at a time. It’s the best we can do.
In the meantime, read on for some Nutritional Style reports from the field.
This week at Nutritional Style-
-Check out how I made it through an event with 200 + DC Public School kids, the Washington Redskins and Cheerleaders, and managed to sneak in a talk to them on the effects of processed sugar and inflammation.
-Less Cancer founder, Bill Couzens shares a blog with us in honor of October, and gives us his perspective on the cancer epidemic in our country. Thanks Bill.
-The “Cleanse with Style” girls are rockin’ THEIR cancer-prevention lifestyle, so much so that we’re hosting an encore, and women are already signing up.. get ready to join me in a few weeks.
With love and health to you,
Holli

*My sister’s been cancer free for 9 years, my cousin, cancer free as well, and my cousin who just found out has an excellent prognosis, with no chemotherapy recommended. Blessings to them all.

Why would they listen to me?
I partnered with the American Heart Association last week for a wonderful kick off event to a program they call RECESS, a healthy program that brings nutrition and fitness to hundreds of kids a year.
It was loads of fun, but I had to resort to snacks to get their attention from the Washington Redskins, and their cheerleaders! Read more here

My friend, Bill Couzens agreed to contribute to Nutritional Style’s blog in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
See what Bill has to say about cancer in America, and the progress we have, or have not made.
